Understanding IUI
What is IUI?
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves placing prepared sperm directly into the womb at the most appropriate time in your menstrual cycle, helping improve the chances of fertilisation.

Sperm may come from a partner or a donor, depending on your circumstances and treatment plan.

The procedure itself is quick and minimally invasive, usually taking around 10 minutes. Most patients find it no more uncomfortable than having a cervical smear.
Who it may help
When IUI may be considered
IUI may be recommended in selected circumstances, including unexplained infertility, mild male factor fertility concerns, minimal endometriosis, or where donor sperm is being used.

It may also be an option for single women and same-sex couples depending on their individual circumstances and treatment goals.

At your consultation, Ms Ben Nagi will carefully assess your fertility history, investigations, and overall circumstances before discussing whether IUI is the most appropriate option for you.
Initial consultation
A detailed consultation to understand your medical history, fertility journey, investigations, and whether IUI is the right treatment pathway.
Cycle monitoring
Your natural cycle may be monitored, or medication may be recommended to support ovulation depending on your treatment plan.
Ovulation timing
Treatment is carefully timed around ovulation to maximise the chances of fertilisation.
Sperm preparation
The sperm sample is carefully prepared in the laboratory so that the healthiest sperm can be selected for treatment.
Insemination procedure
Prepared sperm is placed directly into the womb using a fine catheter in a quick, straightforward procedure.
Follow-up and next steps
You will be supported after treatment, with clear guidance on timing, testing, and next steps.
Our approach
Care that feels thoughtful and personal
Fertility treatment can feel uncertain, even when the treatment itself is relatively straightforward.

At Consilium Clinic, care is designed to feel calm, personal, and supportive. Wherever possible, Ms Ben Nagi remains directly involved in your care, helping provide continuity and reassurance throughout your treatment journey.
Treatment recommendations are always based on careful assessment, ensuring IUI is only recommended where it is likely to be an appropriate option.
Understanding investigations
IUI can be an effective treatment in selected circumstances, but success depends on a number of factors, including age, fertility diagnosis, sperm quality, and whether ovulation occurs as expected.
Not every fertility patient is suited to IUI, which is why treatment recommendations are always made carefully and based on your individual circumstances.
Success rates and realistic expectations will be discussed openly during your consultation so you can make informed decisions about your care.
